The King & Queen of Country Swing

Grant and Shalee Taylor, better known as the "King and Queen of Country Swing," met while kicking up dust at their local dance hall. What started as a fun night of country swing dancing quickly turned into something more when they realized they had a connection—both on and off the dance floor.

In 2018, they began posting videos of their crazy lifts, something almost no one was doing at the time. To their surprise, more than just their friends and family liked their videos, and suddenly, they were part of a movement that helped shake up the world of country swing. Now, they have amassed 1.3 million followers on TikTok, with half a million on other platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Every year they teach all over the country and are the only country dance instructors who can say they've taught 6,000 people at one time.

As much fun as they have dancing, what they love most is being married! They’re big fans of marriage and highly recommend it. 😉 They feel incredibly blessed to have found each other and are thankful to God for giving them the chance to share their love and dance with the world.

Our Story

Who doesn't love a good love story? 😉 Well ours is exactly that. While we were both attending Brigham Young University, we were also going country swing dancing two to four times a week at our local dance hall. We won't bore you with all the details, but needless to say, from the very first lift we did together... Grant literally swept me off my feet! It wasn't long before Grant asked me on our first date, where he picked me up in a 76' Chevy truck with a bench seat, and we went horseback riding. I thought I'd never met a more perfect man!

Of course, we were still getting to know each other. We spent the next year dating and dancing together and loving every moment. We were married the following June and life has never been better! We were still going dancing and still practicing our crazy lifts when we decided to start posting them on Social Media - sort of like a portfolio for our friends and family. At the time, we were watching a show about the British Monarchy, so we jokingly made the handle @kingandqueenofcountryswing. Well... it stuck! And what happened next - going viral, blowing up, etc. - was the shock of a lifetime!

Here we are years later, still married, still dancing, and still doing our crazy lifts and teaching all over the country. Even though in our personal lives we have struggled with infertility and miscarriages, we have found so much joy and peace in dancing together. It's how we started. And it's how we'll continue.

That's what dancing has always been about for us: connecting. We love helping others connect in real face-to-face ways... while also learning a new skill that develops self-confidence. Dancing doesn't need to be serious or competitive or perfect. It can be. And there is a beauty in that kind of dance as well (as I - Shalee - well know. I grew up as an extremely competitive dancer.) But it's okay for it not to be as well. It's okay to dance off-beat with no step structure. It's okay to mess up a move and laugh it off. It's okay to just be present and enjoy someone else's company. That is why we love country dancing. It is the most casual, the most accepting, and the most forgiving dance form that exists. We hope you'll grow to love it too.

Who knows... maybe you'll find your forever dance partner as well. 😉
